Case Study Talks
In 1940s Los Angeles, a pioneering modernist community commissioned a series of experimental modern homes called Case Studies, which shaped a generation of architects. Today, the AFI has extended an invitation to Ghanaian architects, or architects working in Ghana, to present their own ‘case study’, on topics of their choice. With contributions from Farid Farhat, Baerbel Mueller and Juergen Strohmayer, and Kofi Essel-Appiah.

Farid Farhat

Farid Shahid Farhat is a Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology graduate, with a Master of Architecture (MArch) degree. He is a junior partner and the Head of Visualization at studiored. He has undertaken extensive research into alternate living forms for the elderly, culminating in a six-month course in the Faculty of Inclusive Design at the Frankfurt University of Applied Science in Germany. >
Baerbel Mueller & Juergen Strohmayer

Baerbel Mueller is an architect and researcher based in Austria and Ghana. She is Associate Professor at the Institute of Architecture (IoA) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, and head of [applied] Foreign Affairs, a lab which investigates spatial, environmental and cultural phenomena in rural and urban Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.
Juergen Strohmayer is an architect based in Accra, Ghana, and Vienna, Austria. His work is informed by practice, research, and teaching, conducted in collaborative settings. After working with architectural offices in London, Los Angeles, Vienna, and Abidjan, Strohmayer has opened his own firm, De Roché Strohmayer Architects in Accra. >

Kofi chaired the Board of the Commonwealth Association of Architecture CAA for the for the recently-acquired revalidation of the Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture programs of the Department of Architecture, College of Art and Built Environment (CABE) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. >
